Butterfly
I’m a butterfly!
On my wings, I have many coloured scales that make me look so vibrant. These scales cover my wings like tiles cover a roof.
My wings allow me to fly over flowers, where I can sip nectar with my proboscis. The proboscis is a part of my mouth that looks like a little straw. When I'm not using it to feed, I often keep it curled up.
In the 'MEGA BUGS' forest, you can also meet the caterpillar, which is a butterfly that is not yet an adult. From our eggs, caterpillars hatch. The caterpillar eats and grows a lot until it becomes big enough. When it's ready, the caterpillar hangs onto a leaf or a twig and becomes a chrysalis. The chrysalis doesn't move and is defenceless, but it often looks like a dry leaf to fool predators.
Inside the chrysalis, a great transformation takes place... and in the end, a beautiful butterfly will emerge!
Focus: The Trentino butterfly
Trentino, the Province where we are, is often associated with a butterfly because its geographical shape looks like a butterfly with its wings wide open!
