TRENTINO'S CUISINE

Besides the charm of its natural environment and landscapes, the Trentino region can boast a very tasty local cuisine, based on traditional recipes and the produce of the earth.

Storo corn meal polenta (maize porridge), mushrooms, carne salada (thinly-sliced cured beef) , mountain cheeses, torta di patate (potato fritters), white asparagus from Zambana, trouts of Trentino, but also the most famous strangolapreti (spinach dumplings), canederli dumplings and Speck (smoked ham) – originated in Tyrol but now commonly found in Trentino, too.

These delicacies cannot go without pictures of apples and grapes, that are inextricably linked to the archetypal image of Trentino. The tidy orchards of the Val di Non valley and the vineyards of the Piana Rotaliana plateau testify to a strong economy as well as beautiful landscapes and food and wine.

The proximity of the Paganella plateau to the Val di Non and Valle dell'Adige valleys means that more than anywhere else apples and Teroldego DOC (a typical red wine produced from a vine exclusively cultivated in the province of Trento) are always to be found on the tables of local restaurants, in the dining rooms of hotels, in mountain huts and barns'.

Besides the red Teroldego, Trentino wines are known throughout the world thanks to the classic sparkling wine spumante classico Trento D.O.C., Caldano DOC and Vin Santo DOC, a 'meditation' wine taht well accompanies blue cheese or dried sweets.
